What Are the Hottest Remote Jobs for 2019?

Employers across the country are starting to realize the benefits of hiring remote workers. Hiring remote workers helps to reduce office costs, and it’s quickly becoming one of the trendiest benefits companies can offer to attract top talent. With that being said, what industries will be offering remote work in 2019?

For the sixth year, FlexJobs has released its list of the top 100 companies that offer remote jobs. In 2018, these 100 companies posted the most remote job listings, and FlexJobs expects that their support for remote work will continue into 2019 and beyond.

Through an analysis of the flexible job posting histories of the more than 51,000 companies in the FlexJobs database, the research pinpoints which companies offered more remote-friendly positions than any others. FlexJobs defines “Remote-friendly” as positions that must offer some level of remote work (the levels on the FlexJobs website are listed as: “100% remote work,” “partial remote work,” or “option for remote work”).

Top 7 Industries Hiring Remote Workers

Remote jobs in sales have increased, surpassing education as the third most represented career field on the list. The healthcare and computer/IT industries continue to offer the most remote-friendly jobs, with customer service and finance remote jobs also in high demand. Below are seven of the top industries hiring remote workers and the companies that are currently dominating in the hiring landscape.

  1. Computer and IT: SAP, Red Hat, Salesforce
  2. Medical and Health: Magellan Health, CVS Health, BroadPath Healthcare Solutions
  3. Sales: Hibu, Enterprise Holdings, Philips
  4. Education and Training: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Pearson, EF – Education First
  5. Customer Service: Concentrix, Liveops, Sutherland
  6. Accounting and Finance: Fiserv, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase
  7. HR and Recruiting: ADP, Kelly Services, Robert Half International

Careers and job titles for remote work. Five fast-growing remote career fields in 2018 include math and economics, insurance, nonprofit and philanthropy, mortgage and real estate, and marketing.

While a wide variety of jobs can be done from home, the 20 most popular work-from-home job titles include teacher, writer, developer, analyst, sales representative, nurse, accountant, and program manager.

Notable companies supporting remote work. Some, such as Cisco, Abbott, and Sanofi are newcomers to FlexJobs’ annual Top 100 list, while others, such as Hilton, Williams-Sonoma, and Intuit were also on last year’s list. Dell, Salesforce, and Humana have been featured on the list since 2014.

Several state and federal government employers continue to make the list, including the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the State of Washington. Overall, these 100 companies represent more than 15 industries and are headquartered across 10 different countries.
