Finding Job Candidates

Where is the talent you seek? How do you connect with your ideal job candidates?

Research from SilkRoad, a provider of talent activation solutions, offers a roadmap designed to help maximize your sourcing efforts.

Flurry of Activity

Be forewarned: The journey in search of top talent isn’t easy. SilkRoad finds that 14 million applicants result in 655,000 interviews and 329,000 hires.
This activity translates to a U.S. jobs mean vacancy rate of 27.8 working days.
At the same time, employees continue to resign. In April 2017, 3.1 million employees voluntarily resigned.
Is it any wonder employers are having difficulty filling jobs? And the situation is not expected to improve. A full 92 percent of employers expect an increase in competition for talent this year.

Sources of Hire

SilkRoad research finds employee referrals remain the top source of hire. However, job site Indeed, in second place, isn’t far behind—and Indeed is the top source of interviews.
Other top sources of hire are current employees; recruiter sourced; and career websites, in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Internal sources provide the majority of new hires, accounting for 52 percent; but external sources aren’t far behind, at 48 percent.
Interestingly, external sources account for 62 percent of interviews, whereas internal sources account for only 38 percent.

About Job Sites

When it comes to hires and interviews, Indeed outpaces all other job sites. More than 72 percent of all job site interview traffic comes from Indeed, and more than 65 percent of job site hires are attributed to Indeed.

Other Findings

As might be expected, online is the primary way to connect with candidates for the purpose of interviews and hires.
Here are the numbers:

  • Interviews: Online, 86 percent vs. 14 percent offline
  • Hires: Online, 72 percent vs. 28 percent offline

Still, 28 percent is a sizeable percentage, which suggests employers shouldn’t overlook offline methods of recruiting.
